Sheriff Jeff Jaeger welcomed three new deputies to his agency this past month and is seeking two others. Tony Ellenbecker, Michael Remington and Joel Prahl were all recently sworn in after completing the agency’s rigorous hiring process.
Ellenbecker is a Merrill native and graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh and completed his recruit school training at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton. Remington is a native of the Gleason area and graduated from Antigo High School. He completed his associate’s degree and recruit training at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau. Prahl is a native of the Town of Wausau. He also completed his associate’s degree and recruit school training at NTC in Wausau.
All three deputies are in the final phases of the field training program where experienced deputies pair up with the new recruits and oversee their training process. The remaining two deputies will be hired in the coming month once they complete hiring phases which include interviews, background checks and physical and psychological exams.
Sheriff Jaeger is excited to see the three men begin their careers locally and looks forward to bringing his agency back to full strength with the hiring of two more deputies in the coming months.
“It is good to see such qualified local candidates coming back to the communities they grew up in order to serve and protect. I am quite proud to have them aboard and look forward to their contributions to our agency and community,” Jeager said.
